SD needs to either rebuild or contend. Not be in the middle. They need to trade Tyson Ross

Willson Contreras
Billy McKinney

This is bad. I know it's comparing apples to oranges but if I'm the Padres I want something similar to what the Phillies got for Giles if I trade Ross meaning 2 elite prospects plus more prospects he's young just 28 and has 3 more years of control. Why do people on here seem to think Cubs prospects have value? Yeah sure they might be good but if a club continues to block them it's basically saying you don't think they're good enough to start at that position so why would another team?

The Cubs aren't blocking anyone from the farm. The simple fact is that they have top-level talent at almost every position on the diamond. The only real room for improvement is at catcher and that is even debatable. What should they do, trade Addison Russell or Kris Bryant so that Javier Baez can play full time? Just because the MLB talent is elite, doesn't preclude the talent coming behind them from being just as good.

Trade Bryant or Russell to make room for Baez to start?

That, sir, is ridiculously funny.

And yes, they did block guys, Soler especially. They had ample opportunity to KEEP him in the starting role he had, and they brought in 2 guys to start in the outfield.

It'd be one thing if Soler weren't a starter last year. That he was tells us more so about him than the Cubs' "depth".

As far as Baez, he is awful. Suggesting that he could start at the big league level is comical. If people wanted him, he would've been traded by now. Classic over-rated Cubs guy. Reminds me of Kosuke Fukudome in that regard.

The Cubs don't have enough faith in Baez and Soler to commit to them long-term, otherwise Fowler and Heyward and Zobrist would not be with the team.

I am not sure if another team will commit to them or not, but it would likely be a team with nothing to lose and lots of holes, like the Phillies, Padres or Braves.

I agree that they did block both Solar and Schwarber from there everyday deserved roles by bringing back Fowler, I see it as a waist of money by the Cubs I think that even though Hayward would prefer not to play CF, if it means playing for the best team in the MLB I think he would be willing to play CF, so they made a real mistake by bringing Fowler back, don't get me wrong Fowler is a good player, but let him go to a team that actually needs him and stop hogging all the good players that are going to start clogging up the system.

I could see those teams going after Baez, but the Cubs better not expect much more than a middle reliever, an over-paid position player, or an injured starter.
