Everyone keeps saying "The pirates don't make deals like this" which is true, but perhaps that's one of the reasons they can't get past the Wild Card. If they want to potentially bring a championship to this organization that has been lackluster for decades, they need to capitalize on their deep prospect pool and maximize the primes of Gerrit Cole, Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte.

This is the exact type of "win now" risk that they need to take that could catapult them over the Cubs, Giants and Nationals.

I agree, and I think the deal is relatively fair, but that is their mindset. Personally, I think a Sale for McCutcheon trade might help out both teams.
