Nationals receive: Jeremy Jeffress RHP
Rangers receive: Gio Gonzalez LHP, Koda Glover RHP (Nats #6 prospect)

Nationals utilize Jeffress as their closer (who comes with multiple years of control) . Rangers deal from their surplus of bullpen arms and get a middle-of-the-rotation starter with only 1 year of control, but also a solid pitching prospect.

Shoo-wee.

Stinker alert.

What do you think is so bad about this proposal? Rangers won't use Jeffress as their closer with Dyson still there. They have so much bullpen depth. However, he easily slides in as the Nats closer. Gonzalez is coming off a bad year, but the Rangers have repeatedly asked for starting pitching, as they are low after Hamels and Darvish. They also get a solid pitching prospect.

Red Sox Guy, I see you always making a mockery of these rumors. But let's not forget that you proposed trading Trout to the Yankees for only 3 top 100 prospects (with 0 of them in the top 10) and 3 other prospects not in the top 100.

i agree this is too much to give up for jeffress. but i also agree red sox guy is the worst commentator on this site. hates every single trade.

Nah, I don't hate every trade. Just those that make no sense. Like this one.

Jeffress is not nearly worth Gio. Period.

By the way, here is what I proposed, and I still think it would be good for both teams:

The worst farm system in baseball belongs to the Angels. While they won't admit it, the Angels would be better off trading Mike Trout. The team best in position to make such a deal is Trout's boyhood faves, the Yankees.

The Angels send Trout to New York. He re-energizes the fan base for America's most successful sports franchise, and all of MLB. Matt Shoemaker goes to to help fill out the rotation.

The Yankees send a load to LA, including OF Clint Frazier, SS Gleyber Torres, RHP Domingo Acevedo, OF Blake Rutherford, RHP James Kaprielian, and RHP Dillon Tate. That's six of the Yankees' top 11 prospects, many of whom were obtained for Chapman and Miller this year. But it leaves the Yanks' young base of Trout, Judge, Sanchez and Bird intact, and gives new hope to Angels fans.

None of those 6 prospects are top 10 prospects, so you'd have to include Mateo and Sheffield at least in addition to Frazier, Torres, and Rutherford. That would give the Angels 3 top 20 prospects in Frazier, Torres, and Mateo. Then they also get 2 other top 100 prospects in Rutherford and Sheffield. You'd probably also have to include another player with Mlb experience, like a Severino.

Also, Jeffress had 27 saves and a 2.33 ERA last season. He probably would have ended up with 40+ if he had stayed with the Brewers as their closer. Gonzalez is coming off a subpar season with an ERA over 4.50, and is fairly expensive for an at best middle of the rotation starter at 12-13 million.

Jeffress is okay. Nothing great. He got those 27 saves for a sad-ass Brewers team that traded K Rod, then lost Will Smith to injury in the spring. Saves, like wins, are a very overrated stat. Look at his other stats. 207 career innings pitched. Nothing special. And his off-field troubles send up red flags to GMs.

Cubbies, it might take more to get Trout. If so, the Yanks should pay it, and the Angels should accept.

Red Sox, agreed. Especially if the Angels don't play on making huge roster changes to contend, they're a .500 team at best. Trading Trout could really benefit the Angels. They need a much better farm system. And I don't care what Cashman says, I don't believe the Yanks will ever truly "rebuild" so they would give up any prospects to get him.
