You all remember the Rizzo trade from the padres to the cubs.

Cubs get:
1B Rizzo + P minor leaguer

Padres get:
SP cashner + P minor leaguer

This was meant to clear space for just aquired alonso from the reds as he was blocked by votto in cincinnati and was a top prospect at the time so trading rizzo was reasonable. Cashner was an up and coming young pitcher so the value was on the padres recieving end. Rizzo hit around .150 in his rookie year.

Well Rizzo was one of the key pieces in the world series win.

Reasoning for this, there's a player similar to Rizzo that can be traded but is blocked at the position at firstbase and hasn't hit all that much so far. Jonathan Singleton.

Tigers get:
1B Jonathan Singleton

Astros get:
RP Drew VerHagen
OF Tyler Collins

This trade gives the Tigers a young cost controlling player who is under contract for the next 5 years with the last 3 years as club options with buyouts on all 3 years. Also can be insurrance to a potential Victor or miggy trade.

2017: $2,000,000
2018: $2,000,000
2019: $2,500,000 (club) / $500,000 (buyout)
2020: $5,000,000 (club) / $250,000 (buyout)
2021: $13,000,000 (club) / $250,000 (buyout)

These can benifit the tigers if singleton reaches his potential, this can help a potential rebuilding team.

The astros get rid of singleton as he's not on their 40 man roster. So getting 2 controllable pieces for something they won't use will be a no brainer. Aj reed is the firstbasemen so he can play there.

I say this trade would help both.

Singleton is not going to be anything close to answer for the Tigers like Rizzo was to the Cubs. He was an overrated prospect that hasn't stuck in the Majors. Once again cookie you are fooling yourself.

Singleton was DFA'd by the Stros and passed through waivers unclaimed. The Tigers could have had him for the claiming fee. Singleton isn't being blocked. he lacks talent for the game at the highest level at this point in his career. More time in the minors. perhaps working on pitch recognition and bat to ball skills that will reduce his strike out rate to below 40 % would help.

Until then. he's not worth a fourth OF'er like Collins, alone, let alone a useful BP arm like Verhagen.

Wouldn't Singleton also be blocked for a few more years with Martinez and many more years with Cabrera?

How does this solve anything?

At the time of the Rizzo trade Cashner was a highly regarded prospect.

^you didn't read what he said did you. He was talking about a trade that happened years ago, when Cashner was a member of the Cubs and went to the Padres in a trade.

I know rizzo may have been better at the time but. singleton has potential to be a 40 HR hitter if he cuts down strikeouts

He most likely would be a trumbo, high HR total with a low AVG and high SO

What i mean by bringing up the RIZZO trade was i feel singleton can reach that level if he works on his hitting and discipline. Which rizzo did.

The sense of this was if we trade victor. We would then sign dae ho lee and they compete for playing time.

I think you and Jon Singleton are the only two people on the planet who think he has 40 HR potential still.

If he did, the Astros wouldn't have DFA'd him.

Jon Singleton became Ryan Howard sooner than Ryan Howard began to take a down turn. He definitely doesn't have 40 hr potential.
