Jays get Jay Bruce
Mets get Bo Bichette, Zach Jackson, and Ryan Mcbroom.

Hey look, a realistic offer for Jay Bruce.

2.) 05 Jan 2017

Jay Bruce has little to no value, IMO the Jays give up too much

30 homer 90+ rbi's isn't enough? Your delusional

4.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 01:03:24
You Blue Jays make me laugh. You want upgrades, but then any and every deal involving prospects is too much.

5.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 01:44:23
That should work for both teams.

6.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 02:26:24
Way too much from the Jays

7.) 06 Jan 2017

Home runs and RBIs don't determine value. If so, Chris Carter would get a ton of money. He doesn't.

Don't think you have that right Huskers.

The Jay's don't have the prospects to give. Wouldn't be wise to give the few good ones we have for short term players. It's really not that complicated.

We want upgrades that make the team better. We have some lower end prospects that are expendable but teams don't want those guys. They would want the 4 or 5 top 100 guys in the system. If we trade them for rentals just to get close again this year, who do we have to replace the likes if;

Tulo
Martin
Donaldson
Happ
Estrada
Morales etc.

Jay Bruce, IMO, has some value but not a lot. He does do a little more than just hit Homer's and get rbi's.

Look at Chris davis. How much is he getting paid for his low average and strike outs every year. He has a higher strike out rate than Justin Smoak. You should have included him in your Chris Carter comment.

It's called production. Your a team looking for a bat. With Jay Bruce you got it.

10.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 16:05:19
Except Chris Davis actually does a lot more than Bruce. Better advanced metrics, better clutch numbers.

But either way, if Davis had 1 year left on his contract, no one would be trading for him, either, IMO.

As for the Blue Jays trades: that's my point. You all act like you want these major upgrades, but the moment people suggest a trade, everything is "too much". At some point, they have to bite the bullet and go for it. That window is getting smaller and smaller and the likelihood of all the "untouchable" prospects panning out is slim. That team was so poorly ran that I almost pity Blue Jays fans.

Ask the Mets if they got any production out of Bruce, and for the price of Dilson Herrera, they really have to be upset.

And HRs and RBIs are not, in any way, indicators of how a player will produce going forward. RBIs are contingent on good base running ahead of you and HRs are largely park dependent. Over the past three seasons, Bruce has been worth 0.2 WAR. In other words, you could find almost any minor leaguer who will be as valuable as Jay Bruce on your team.

He is a putrid defender, in fact in that same 3 season span, he's THE worst defensive RF in the game. He's not that great of a hitter, either. He's 74th out of 88 qualified in terms of wRC+ and 69th in wOBA.

That 0.2 WAR over a three year span is alarming, and should be for any front office that values advanced metrics (so everyone except KC, TOR, NYM, and maybe a few others) . No one should give him $13M for the production of a 23-year-old minor leaguer. No one.

12.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 17:28:52
Realistically, if the Mets don't trade him, they'll DFA him in May.

13.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 17:52:00
Huskers, why were the Jay's so poorly ran exactly? How far are you going back? Most teams would take back to back ALCS in a heartbeat.

Who is your team anyway. I think you missed it the last time I asked

14.) 06 Jan 2017

Minnow, take a look at the Blue Jays now. You'll see a couple of major issues:

1. They are relying on aging players to avoid regressing to the mean. You can't expect Happ and Estrada to constantly play at levels way above their usual. In fact, Martin had a very mediocre season last year, and it's tough to suggest he'll have a massive rebound.

How long can we expect Donaldson to keep this up? Tulo? They'll be fine for 2017, but the window is getting smaller and smaller.

2. They have almost no help available out of the farm. They traded all their relief in "win now" moves for rentals. How long will it be before you have farm pieces be significant contributors? If Reid-Foley makes his debut in September, the reasonable expectation is that he's not much major value until closer to 2019. Same with Tellez and several other pieces, providing they actually pan out.

3. They have almost no trade pieces. You've established that many times. That's in part to moving many of them for rentals. It's in part to bad drafting/ scouting. And there just isn't enough value in any of the free agents to get them past Boston, and they might get passed by New York and Baltimore, depending on what those teams do.

The window for Toronto is unbelievably small. I might contend that it closed last season, now that they can't bring back E. E.

Unless they make significant moves, which won't happen unless they trade good prospects, I'd say Toronto's window closed.

As for my favorite team: it's the Huskers.

I'm not sure why you insist on knowing. The truth of my statements isn't dependent on who my favorite team is.

In fact, not revealing it might be better, as it doesn't give anyone a reason to suggest some sort of bias in my stances.

06 Jan 2017 19:13:26
Minnow75 no matter what happened you still didn't win the World Series in either season you clown.

17.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 20:20:44
Well thanks for that jet. That doesn't mean those two weren't good seasons. They lead the AL in attendance last year and attendance was very good the year before. Clown?

Huskers, all teams rely on older players and having 5 guys in the top 100 prospects isn't all that bad. A few more sleepers from what I hear.

The rebuild has started weather people want to believe it or not. Signing Morales and Pierce to shorter contracts to replace EE's production will work out just fine.

As far as your team, no problem. You probably shouldn't reveal. Probably wise

18.) 06 Jan 2017
06 Jan 2017 21:56:52
My point isn't that they have bad prospects. I think they have pretty good prospects, but they are at least a year, maybe year and a half away from even sniffing the majors. How much longer before they are valuable contributors to the squad? (There's always an adjustment period) .

What will Toronto do in the mean time? They seem eager to compete and obviously don't want to waste what's left of Donaldson's prime or Tulo's good years, which are likely long behind him.

As for the point you made with "shorter" deals, I'm not sure I agree. Morales signed for one less year than Encarnacion. Pearce, sure, but he wasn't signing a long-term deal anyway.

I don't think the team they have now is entirely competitive. I doubt it wins 85 games, which would miss the playoffs in the AL. If they want to compete, they have to make moves. And the only moves worth making right now are expensive contracts for crappy players or trades, which requires those good prospects.

This wouldn't happen if the front office wasn't so short-sighted in previous years, thus the "poorly ran" comment from earlier.

06 Jan 2017 22:29:11
Okay dude they lead the league in attendance. Did they win the World Series? Nope and they'll surely won't make the playoff with the team they have now
