TB: - HOU:

With a young wave of pitching on the way (Martes, Paulino, Devenski, Musgrove), the Castro could use one more solid pitcher to add to the rotation this year.

Likewise, after trading Forsythe for De Leon, the Rays could trade yet another starter and add a young impact bat at first base, shifting Brad Miller to 2B.

HOU gets SP Alex Cobb

TB gets 1B AJ Reed

A. J. Reed is a .164 career hitter. Cobb is an established starting pitcher. The Rays don't need another guy who can't hit.

Yeah, this seems like a horrible trade for the rays.

AJ Reed has about a 100 AB's in ML baseball. This is not a career number. it's not even close to it. AJ Reed is a much better hitter than these few plate appearances show. The Rays DO need a guy who plays 1B that can hit. and AJ Reed could be that guy.

I don't like how people say something hungrybear did, but saying a guy is career .164 hitter. it is happening a lot, the point is the guy doesn't even have one full season under him, he only has 45 games and 122 at bats. You can't call those career numbers yet.

Check the reference yourself. He has a future in baseball. But he is not worth an established starting pitcher. Also Tampa is not good at drafting players. Beckham for example. He has not worked out at all. They will probably start him at second base and go into the basement again. Its not just Beckham. They have let a lot of good players go over the years.
