Well the Verlander to the Cubs rumor is getting a lot of fans into it. They have a lot of young talent that the Tigers can get. I feel they can get a young talent who can contribute as soon as this year and add a few other players.

But they also are linked to Avila. Which would be smart to move them in different trades but adding both together can increase the talent that wed get back.

(Team rank/Mlb rank)

Tigers get:
SP A. Alzolay (21/--)
IF C. Young (12/--)
IF J. Candelario (3/82)
OF K. Schwarber

Cubs get:
SP J. Verlander
C A. Avila
Cash ($25,000,000)

Tigers can get Ian Happ but he is doing better then Schwarber so the Cubs may rather want to hold onto him over Schwarber. Schwarber is the key piece in the return as he can return to C and spot start in the OF. Alzolay is a less intriguing as other pitchers the Cubs have but he can be moved to the bullpen. Young can be a future utility player as he has played all IF spots along with time in the OF. Candelario can potentially take over 1B when Victor leaves since Miggy (if neither are traded) can move to DH.

Cubs get Verlander to bolster the rotation which despite having a down year is a good pitcher in the playoffs and adding Avila would be like Lester and Ross since theyd pitch and catch one another.

No way the Cubs give up on Schwarber for Verlander. He's still solid but not the old JV. Plus, Schwarber isn't going to catch again. Take Schwarber out and add another Cubs prospect in the 10-15 range and it looks like a good deal.

Given his defense, I think the Cubs could sell Schwarber and not be overly regretful.

I think the value is fair on both sides for sure. But:

1) Schwarber is a DH, believe me.
2) I don't see the cubs doing it. Schwarber is basically theo's first son and the fan base in chicago thinks he's as untouchable as Bryant.

To put it in prospective our local ESPN radio station had a poll question yesterday asking would you do Schwarber for Verlander straight up if the Tigers fronted half of the salary and it was 70/ 30 no. Not saying I agree at all, but the fan base would honestly riot if they traded schwarber.

Understandable to all comments

With his slump this year in hitting and defense. the value is down a little. Yes he played a part in the playoffs last year but to play full time, he can't with the Cubs cause he could play at C but the Cubs havnt tried that yet this year. So in the OF, well he was demoted due to a slump.

So i feel the Cubs fans would trade him and yes the fans like him but the Tigers fans love Verlander but it may be time to trade him.

I feel that its reasonable to what the Tigers may ask for in return for Verlander but they also get Avila to help offset the production of Schwarber (which Avila is hitting nearly double the BA)
