If the Cubs could be guaranteed that Machado would re-sign, this actually wouldn't be a terrible trade. Without that guarantee, this is just way too much. I do think they should trade Schwarber to an AL team, as he's just terrible on the defensive side, and they might be able to find one of those rare real win-win trades. The big issue I have with Machado's fit on the Cubs is Bryant. They already have a young star player at 3B, and they have a young star player at 1B, meaning if Machado can't handle the defensive side of SS, they don't have a great way to fit all three. Bryant is not a good enough OF to play him there full time, and they don't have a DH slot to rotate the three through.

Ideally he would be, but he has had some knee issues in the past. With a guy his size, that could wind up being an issue playing all of your games at SS as opposed to 3B. He's a great get for anyone, don't get me wrong, but I feel like whoever does wind up with him should know there's more than a slight chance he'll probably have to slide to 3B at some point.

LeoCTallon3 you should really understand the price for Machado before posting stupid comments like "Again with that godawful Machado trade? " The offer the Cubs made today was Russell, Almora, Montgomery (12Up. com), which is right in line with this offer. If you think BAL is going to sell him for any less, you're mistaking.
