I don't fully understand why Mets would look to trade Lowrie with D. Smith BUT I did think of a scenario where it makes sense.

Trade above for prospects and /or salary relief

Use scary relief to sign Brock Holt and J. Iglesias to 1 year deals. This would greatly improve Mets flexibility and defense.
(I also think they should sign 1 more deliver - S Cishek and put Gsellman in AAA for depth)

If they're trading Smith it better not be for salary relief. Lowrie only has 1 year left. I am all for trading Smith with Lowrie, but only if it nets us a quality prospect or bullpen piece.
