Red Sox/Phillies Trade Offer AGAIN:

I believe Sox GM B.Cherington will not wait until the Trade Deadline and will go against traditional trends with Player Evaluation periods and offers GM R.Amaro a Final Offer he won't be able to refuse this time around. Sox are spending Big this year so why stop now. For the Sox, this is the year to take their financial lumps and get back under the Luxury Tax Limit in 2016 One final move that will compliment the abundant up and coming talent in the Farm System.

The Sox SP and RP staff show promise but their efforts still won't be good enough to sustain to even fight for a presumed Wild Card Playoff spot this year. A MLB worst ERA is all it takes for me to be convinced of this Trade taking place finally. I see that trend in Pitching not improving greatly so a major and dramatic spark is essential Now,not later on in June to provide some stability. This move will also go against My and the Boston's Exec. staff of giving Big $$ to player's that are 30+ in age, but I am in the Minority believing this risky move will provide more Positives than Negatives.

Phillies Get:
-C.Vazquez
-H.Owens
-J.Bradley
-G.Cecchini
-S.Victorino

Red Sox Get:
-C.Hamels
-J.Papelbon

Why would the Phillies want Victorino? Salary?

I think Philadelphia will get significantly better offers from teams than this.

Good start, but ultimately it's not enough for the Phils. As a Phillies fan, I also believe they should be talking to the Sox. There is no money issue in Philly, so I would offer to cover Hamels $20M option in 2019 as well as Papelbon's $13M 2016 salary. For that package, you first have to forget about Victorino - that ship sailed. I'd ask for Owens, Barnes, Bradley, Vazquez, Margot, and Cecchini.

It figured to rouse up pestimism trying to include S.Victorino in that trade package, doesn't hurt trying though.

BOY HOWDIE, your counter-offer is admirable but I would have to keep Margot off the table as a No-Go. I am also a bit hesitant with letting Barnes go as well. The Sox would be lacking an ideal RHP understudy to Papelbon in the Bullpen, but to further this deal getting done, he can stay in that Package.

Your are right to include $$$ relief for Hamels and Papelbon, for that ultimately may be what gets this trade to be completed once and for all.

*My amended counter-offer in volley would be_______________________

-Owens
-Vazquez
-Bradley
-Cecchini
-Barnes
-Phillies contribute 50% for Hamels $20M 2019 option -&- contribute 50%
for Papelbon's $13M 2016 salary.

*It would hard-pressed for any other teams to match what combinations the Red Sox could offer.

If the market for Hamels was at the Phillies asking price for Hamels, he'd be gone already. No one's budging, and no one will. The Phil's are either going to have to trade Hamels for what they can get(which appears to be more than fair) or let Hamels down with the sinking ship and gain nothing.

Highly Biased BoSox Fan:

That couldn't be further from the truth. The Phillies know they can receive a greater trade come June or July than they would if they had traded him in January.

Recent history proves that.

Jeff Samardzija to OAK for Addison Russell
Carlos Beltran to SF for Zack Wheeler
Roy Oswalt to PHI for Jonathan Villar
(My personal favorite) CC Sabathia to MIL for Michael Brantley

There's tons more just like it. The deals get better as the need goes up. As teams look around and see that they are maybe a pitcher away from being highly competitive in the post-season, they will be more apt to give up bigger pieces for the guy.

The reason Hamels isn't gone is because Amaro hasn't received the package he wants. It's not like he's going to lose the guy any time soon. Hamels is signed for another 4-5 years.
