Chicago Cubs now and offseason.

SD/Chi

Chi gets: James Shields (full contract)

SD gets: Castro, Vogelbach

Offseason
Sign Price 7 years 150

1.) 13 Aug 2015 02:38:44
The Cubs would not have to give up nearly that much to get Shields, if they're willing to pay all of the contract.

2.) 13 Aug 2015 03:30:27
Price will get a ton more

3.) 13 Aug 2015 21:57:52
If the Cubs get Price they also won't need Shields.

Chi/SD

Chi gets: Tyson Ross, Will Venable, Jedd Gyorko.

SD gets: Starlin Castro, Arismendy Alcantara, Jen-Ho Tseng, Dallas Beeler

Chicago gets a young affordable pitcher who will slot into their #3 role. They get a lefty bat they desperately need off the bench. And take back Gyorkos contract to match part of castros and a change of scenery may bring him back to form.

Same goes with Castro a change of scenery could give the Padres the Castro that was an all star. They also get a UTIL guy and a very solid pitching prospect in Tseng. Beeler is a throw in to eat innings for their rotation in the majors.

Not bad.

2.) 28 Jul 2015 19:29:32
Love it.

3.) 28 Jul 2015 20:38:41
I think the one thing I would change is Chicago swapping out Alcantara for a little bit better piece.

Alcantara has not played well this year, minors or majors. I'd imagine SD would want just a little more to try and replenish their farm.

4.) 29 Jul 2015 00:18:06
i don't think the padres would want alcantara with liriano and renfroe both on the verge of the majors as well.

5.) 29 Jul 2015 03:24:33
It's okay. But I think SD needs more its way.

CHC/SD

Chicago gets: SP Tyson Ross, OF Will Venable

SD gets: SS/2B Javier Baez, SP Jen Ho-Tseng, SP
Carson Sands

Chicago gets their SP and Lefty Bat

SD gets a high risk high potential prospect in Baez, a solid pitching prospect in Tseng, and a kid with a ton of potential in Sands.

Three team trade
Would never happen but a fun idea to tool with.

CHI/COL/NYM

CHI get: Tulo SS, John Axford RHP

NYM get: Starlin Castro SS, Christian Villanueva 3B (Cubs)

COL get: Matz LHP (NYM), Schwarber C/OF (Cubs), Baez 2B/SS (When healthy) (Cubs), McKinney OF (Cubs), Jen Ho Tseng RHP (Cubs), Gabriel Ynoa RHP (NYM)

Matz #57 prospect in baseball
Schwarber #42
Baez former top 10 prospect until taken off list due to MLB ABs
McKinney #100
Jen Ho Tseng #8 in Cubs system
Ynoa #13 in Mets system
Villanueva #21 in Cubs

I don't see the Cubs trading Castro and getting a shortstop back in return. They already have Russell

2.) 13 Jun 2015 18:28:03
When you start a post with "this won't happen, but…" I tune you out. Why bother?

Cubs/Miami

Cubs get: Giancarlo Stanton (5 mil a year), Dan Haren, Nick Wittgren

Miami gets: SS/2B Javier Baez, UTIL Arismendy Alcantara, P CJ Edwards, P Duane Underwood, SS Gleybar Torres, OF Billy McKinney, OF Eloy Jimenez, C Mark Zagunis.

Miami gets so much potential upside in Baez Torres, Jimenez and Underwood and solid prospects in Edwards and McKinney. Arismendy Alcantara will be an above average UTIL man in the pros. Which every team needs. Still young with some potential.

Cubs get Stanton who will be back in August and Boost a lineup that has been cold. Rizzo, Stanton, Bryant, Soler in the heart of your order you should be a top team offensively. Haren will eat innings and is a better #5 than wada. Wittgren gives them another possible bullpen option and has some potential.

Zagunis is a key piece. I think Zagunis will be a very solid backstop for many years. He has had a good year and might make the top 100 prospects.

This is awful on so many facets.

You pull the stupid idea of quantity over quality. The Marlins don't have the space within their organization to take on that many pieces. and the Cubs would be hurt badly to give it all up. In fact, there's not a chance in the world MLB actually okays this trade should it ever become a possibility (although we all know it won't happen).

This really was the dumbest trade I've ever seen on here.

Thanks for the good homer post, though.

This is a lot and far fetched but why not.
After this year

Cubs receive:
Giancarlo Stanton

Marlins receive:
Albert Almora #15 prospect out of 100 (in cubs farm #4)
CJ Edwards #34 (5)
Pierce Johnson #81 (8)
Dan Vogelbach (11)
Christian Villanueva (13)

Marlins get 3 top 100 prospects for Stanton and another two solid young prospects.

Cubs resign Bonifacio to 1 or 2 year deal
Cubs lineup

Bonifacio CF
Alcantara 2B
Stanton RF
Rizzo 1B
Bryant 3B
Castro SS
Castillo C
Coghlan/Lake LF

Cubs need to open up the checkbook for pitching in order to be a competitive team but I think this lineup can forsure make it.

Sign Scherzer 6 year 160 mil (26. 6 a year)
Justin masterson reunites with theo 4 year 60 mill dollar deal

Rotation
Scherzer
Masterson
Arrieta
Wood
Jackson (hope he is gone but won't be)

Baseballfan43

1.) Far-fetched is right. Cubs are rebuilding. Trading for established stars and signing others is not rebuilding.

2.) Cubs are rebuilding this year. Expect next year for them to be much more competitive and prospects to be brought up. Hoyer said it himself they are going after top pitching in FA.

3.) Unproven in the majors. They still won't be at the top of the division or in the Wild Card. They would be relying on young inexperience guys.

First big trade of the season

Athletics receive:
Jeff Samardizja
Jason Hammel

Cubs receive:
Addison Russell SS #1 prospect
Billy McKinney OF #2
Dan Straily SP
PTBNL (read it's Raul alcantara #4 prospect)

Billy is going all in the season and can't blame him. Their rotation becomes stacked and they will be tough to beat come playoff time.

Cubs add another top prospect. I think Rizzo at first schwarber at C/RF (defense is not #1 priority) Castro moves to second, Russell shortstop, Baez third, Bryant left, alcantara center, Almora/Soler RF. Pretty solid future for them. Pitching can be added in the offseason for them.

Baseballfan43

1.) Castro won't move from shortstop, either he stays there and Russell moves to second or Castro is shipped away for pitching.

How can you say that Cincinatti won the trade easily? Although it was a solid haul this moves gives KC a legit TOR and an even greater chance of winning a World Series. I think it was a trade that makes sense for both teams and fairly equal.

I would much rather have Tulo than Judge. CarGo is a different story but Tulo is still one of the best hitters and SS in the league.
