CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have "quietly continued having dialogue" with the Phillies regarding Cole Hamels. The report adds that the Phillies "have seemed somewhat more reasonable" in their recent trade talks, and that "some potential progress with at least the Dodgers and Rangers" has been made.

So .

LAD acquires Hamels
PHI acquires Scott Schebler, Jose de Leon, Cody Bellinger, and Alex Verdugo.

1.) 17 Jul 2015 20:56:46
If I'm the Dodgers I say hell ya but idk if philly will do it

2.) 17 Jul 2015 22:03:25
If the Phillies were getting a package like that back for Hamels, Hamels would have been traded already.

3.) 18 Jul 2015 18:51:41
How is Alex guerr not in this deal

4.) 19 Jul 2015 03:22:01
Stanner - Alex Guerrero would be a nice piece, but he doesn't fit in Philly. He's already under a ML contract, getting $5M each in 16 and 17, then a FA in 18. The Phillies are looking for long-term assets, controllable into the future. He would leave before the team was ready to compete again (assuming they ever are).

PHI: Vidal Nuno
ARI: Ben Revere

1.) 'Zona has too many OFs and not enough pitching already.

TEX-BOS-PHI

Texas gets Cole Hamels for Joey Gallo, Jake Thompson, Jurickson Profar, and Ryan Rua.

Boston gets Cliff Lee and cash ($?M) for Christian Vazquez and Henry Owens.

Boy Howdie

1.) I'm not sure that either deal is likely, but both are believable. Texas needs to do something if they want to compete, with Darvish now injured.

2.) 07 Mar 2015 19:40:12
Probably the only trade idea I've seen so far that includes Profar that makes sense. He's an added piece at this point, nothing more.

3.) Way too much for both

4.) There is no way the Red Sox give up their starting catcher and top pitching prospect for a 36-year old coming off an elbow injury who, even with the salary relief you suggested, would cost them at least 40MM over two years.

5.) Bosox fan, I disagree. Come June or July, if the club is in it, they'd deal a couple young guys for a postseason run. With Swihart in the fold, Vazquez is expendable.

6.) Well now that Lee's elbow is shot again or still, I doubt he gets traded. Probably headed for TJ.

7.) Yeah, you're probably right Batman.

8.) Lee is damaged goods. Buyer beware.

Now that Boston signed Moncada, maybe they would be willing to move Bogaerts. How about

PHI: Hamels
BOS: Bogaerts, Owens, Barnes, Margot, Vazquez.

Boy Howdie

1.) Who play SS in Boston in the short term?

2.) Nope. Moncado is the SS of the future, when Bogarts shifts to 3B, HanRam is the DH, and Panda is the 1B.

3.) 24 Feb 2015 02:59:56
And have Hanley play SS for the next 2-3 years? That would be entertaining.

4.) Nope. Still too much in my opinion unless the Phillies are eating some of that contract. Although I still don't see the Sox doing that deal either way.

5.) I think they're going to end up just riding out this year and see if they can't sign someone next winter. That way they get go keep all of the super prospects and build a new core out of Bogaerts, Swihart, Moncada, Betts and Owens

6.) I agree with Sox above. Boston looks like they'll make a run this year with what they have, which could include giving young guys like Workman and Owens a shot. Then, if they are in it at the deadline, they can make a deal then. Or, wait til next winter and make a bid on guys such as Price, Latos, Cueto, Greinke, or others.

7.) Man adore is not a shortstop now and won't be when he gets to the majors

8.) Who is "man adore?"

9.) LTBF, I think their plan is to have Bogaerts be their future SS and Moncada play 3B, which is more suited to his scouting profile.

10.) Hey, either way, good young left side of the infield.

According to Nick Cafardo, The Red Sox "legitimate offer" for Cole Hamels was "heavy on the major league side." Imagine an offer along the lines of Craig, Mujica, and maybe Barnes. Does Cherington really think that will get it done, that Amaro and Gillick will just say "oh, yeah, we'd like to get young projectable players with multiple years of club control, but, hey, now that you mention it, your bench players are just the ticket for our multi-year rebuild!" So, who's being unreasonable?

BOS gives top prospects, then
PHI gives Hamels

But it won't happen. I'm rooting now for the Yankees to get him.

Boy Howdie

1.) I'd be willing to bet good money that that was not the package that was offered. Just because the So aren't giving Blake Swihart, it doesn't mean that they haven't offered the Phillies quality packages. You're assuming a lot here.

2.) You're correct HBBF, I do assume a lot. But "heavy on the major league side" are Cafardo's words, not mine. So even if there were some additional minor league assets, those words to me mean that the offer was headlined by guys like Craig and Mujica - maybe Joe Kelly. Now it may well be that the Sox think Zimmermann is a better fit because they don't want someone signed past 2015, fair enough. But if they are making offers like this for Hamels, they are just wasting everyone's time.

3.) ^I think that "heavy on the major league side" insinuates a package including Christian Vazquez, Kelly, JBJ in addition to prospects like Owens or Margot, which isn't great, but isn't horrible either.Even the notoriously stubborn Red Sox wouldn't think that Mujica or Craig would appeal to the Phillies.

4.) Like I said, that package is a waste of time. You could get a lesser pitcher for it, but not Hamels.

5.) ^I wouldn't call it a 'waste of time'. It's perfectly reasonable for the Phillies to demand Swihart, but it's equally reasonable for the Sox to try to keep him.

6.) Okay, my point is that the 2 sides have widely diverging views of what it would take. And all the reports say they are not even close. So, the more each side holds out hope that, somehow, the other will cave, is a waste of time and effort. Both sides need to move on. The Phils have other players they need to dump and I think they should spend their time trying to find someone (anyone) to take Howard, Ruiz, and Papelbon. Hamels is signed through 2019 and will probably still be relatively effective at age 36-37 (he has never relied on velocity). So his deal will work itself out and there are much worse scenarios than his staying through his contract.

What do you Red Sox fans think of this deal?

If the Cubs and the Red Sox both sent the offers presented by these guys.

The Phillies would be moronic to take the Red Sox deal.

The Red Sox deal isn't even close. No Swihart, no Hamels.

Jon Heyman at CBS Sports reports the Cubs are in on Cole Hamels. What do you think they might be willing to give up? Red Sox fans - if Mookie Betts is on the table, you have first choice!

DeCarr is an okay prospect, but the Phils have no use for Drew. One of the reasons to trade Utley is to use Cesar Hernandez every day at 2B. How about Utley for Ian Clarkin?

I wish people would realize they don't have the slightest clue what any front office will or won't do. And that includes Stark, Heyman, and Rosenthal.

Castor and Baez don't fit. Soler would be a nice get, but it's not enough.

I'm a Phillies fan and there's absolutely no reason for the Orioles to do that. Brown is likely to be DFA'd in the near future.

I think Price's contract will be for significantly more than $120M.
