Seriously, though, the Marlins want YOUNG, CONTROLLABLE players in return for Fernandez, who is also young and controllable.
Whoever trades for him will not have anything of value remaining in their farm system.

I have seen the Marlins make stupider/worse trades before. Example 10 years ago when they traded Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers. Not the best package they could have gotten.

The Willis/Cabrera trade was a completely different scenario. They couldn't afford to keep the crew they had, and the package they got had a lot of people's attention.
That package from Detroit was much like what the Dodgers have now and is unwilling to move. lots of people giving them tons of praise, but none turned into super stars. (Then again, Willis was one of the bigger busts in that trade) .

I don't think the Cabrera/Willis situation is any different. They clearly are getting to the point where they probably won't be able to afford Fernandez. He won't sign an extension. They got an awful return. If I remember hearing correctly they could have gotten Kershaw and Kemp and others from the Dodgers.

I'm very surprised that they still haven't added more starting pitching.
The Yankees are sorta in the same boat, but the difference is that the Yankee pitchers have the benefit of having the best bullpen in the game which the royals showed to be more important that starters, Yankee starters have a nice cushion knowing they potentially have only go 6 innings cause they have the 3headed monster in the bullpen.

Not only that they are the only team not sign a free agent, I'm guessing the are sticking to there guns and stocking up for 2018 and as a life long yank fan its a little hard to deal with but will all worth it to see Bryce Harper in pinstripes.

I mean they have signed free agents, just not to MLB contracts, and I do not see them signing Harper, I see him going to the Cubs because his old life long friend Kris Bryant is there and just imagine this:

I see them signing him and then dealing Montaro, for what I don't know but this would let Schwarber stay in the lineup and Willson Contraes should be up then to be the backup catcher, this is a scary lineup.
And a bench of Contrers, Alcantera (maybe) Volgalbatch, Micinly, either Beaz or La Stella adds to the good depth to the team.

I think any club would want him for his on-field performance, but I don't think these teams like his clubhouse attitude. Derek Jeter was the captain, but in the clubhouse nobody could tell he was that good. But Harper walks around like he owns the place, and I don't think teams want that. But the Yankees and Dodgers have a ton of money (especially the yankees with the contracts of Sabathia, Texeira, Beltran, and A-Rod all rolling off over the next two years) and the Nationals won't have the money to extend him. Harper is a great fit in Yankee Stadium with the short-porch in right, so I think he will wind up in the Bronx.
