This is a revision of a Detroit/San Diego trade I posted a few days ago. Was told by a couple people that Detroit sending Machado/Turnbull/Labourt/Gerber to the Padres for Cashner was way too much. So, see how this looks:

San Diego receives=
-Dixon Machado (SS prospect)
-Austin Kubitza (RSP prospect, #8 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Jairo Labourt (LSP, #11 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Mike Gerber (Left-hand hitting RF prospect, #17 in DET farm system, voted Tigers 2015 hitting prospect of the year by mlb. com, eta-2018)

Detroit receives=
-Andrew Cashner (RSP who has projected 3.0 WAR for 2016 and only $7.0mil for his final year or arbitration before free agency. Sure he could walk, but he could also re-sign too)
-Alexi Amarista (Fills a need as a left-hand hitting infielder off the bench. Making $1.35mil next year followed by one year of arb before hitting free agency in 2018)

Look better now?

That's a lot of prospects for an average pitcher.

2.) 24 Nov 2015 00:21:46
I don't know if you would call Cashner "average". I mean, he did have a rough year in 2015 but he's still a solid pitcher. And, at $7mil in 2016, that's part of the reason for all of the prospects.

3.) 24 Nov 2015 02:49:53
Cashner is above average, for sure.

IMO, it's not enough. Part of that is based on Detroit's recent lackluster performance in producing major league talent.

4.) 24 Nov 2015 17:02:14
I don't think the padres need another SS prospect now that they got Guerra from the red sox. They also have Rudy Giron whose probably going to play A advanced or Double A who they are very high on and is only 19 and they have Jose Rondon.

San Diego recieves=
-Dixon Machado (SS prospect)
-Spencer Turnbull (RSP prospect, #5 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Jairo Labourt (LSP prospect, #11 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Mike Gerber (Left hand hitting RF prospect, #17 in DET farm system, voted Tigers hitting prospect of 2015 by mlb. com, eta-2018)

Detroit receives=
-Andrew Cashner (RSP who has projected 3.0 WAR for 2016 and is only projected to make $7.0 mil this year in his final arb year. Granted, he could walk after 2016, but he could also stay after 2016. Either way, I think its a pretty fair deal for both sides)

That is a lot to give up for 1 year of a slightly above average starter.

2.) 23 Nov 2015 05:59:06
Way to much just for cashner add an additional piece and maybe they would take it but other then that I understand it.

Quantity does not equal quality. And four turds do not equal a good SP.

2.) 09 Nov 2015 00:23:06
If that's the best offer San Diego gets for Cashner, they may as well just keep him. This is horrendous.

3.) 09 Nov 2015 07:44:36
Wow! (Tigers hang up laughing hysterically lol)

4.) 09 Nov 2015 07:46:05
And btw, what kind of a deal do you THINK you can come up with for a pitcher like Cashner who only has one year left on his deal? Ill wait.

5.) 09 Nov 2015 07:54:39
And if those four guys are all "turds" than you obviously haven't been watching baseball as long as your name indicates.

6.) 09 Nov 2015 08:27:27
You have the Tigers giving up a pitcher who has looked absolutely putrid in his time in the majors (Farmer), a reliever who has little to no value, and a SS who will probably be a utility player at best.

1 year of a pitcher is still of value. Hell, teams give up the universe for 3 months of a pitcher.

7.) 09 Nov 2015 15:43:07
For Farmer, as for any pitcher, petco park could help him out if he hasn't had the greatest start to his career yet. He also hasn't had too much service time yet. Not a fan of Machado, I would actually much rather take Jacoby Jones and his 50 game suspension. Also Cashner didn't really show the ability to pitch last year as much as he did throw it hard. He didn't work a strike zone and didn't command his pitches. It was for the most part throw and throw hard and his velocity wasn't all there as it has been either.

8.) 09 Nov 2015 15:44:16
I agree that Buck Farmer is putrid, Al has been a good Middle reliever. Mike Gerber has a lot of potential and so does Machado. He has shown a lot of range and a great arm. He probably will never be a great hitter but he will be a .240 to .265 range hitter with a good OBS. His defense is the big value here. But let's understand what you are getting in Cashner. A number 3 or 4 on a good team. His analytics before last year were good and he has one year left on his contract. I say Detroit should say no and try and make a trade for someone under more control. They can't keep giving away prospects for one year contracts.

9.) 09 Nov 2015 16:52:35
Totellthetruth, I doubt Detroit ever has to say no. I can't imagine San Diego ever accepts that proposal.

10.) 10 Nov 2015 03:10:59
NevergonnabeMLBGM, Cashner still has value. Those guys don't really. Put Cashner in Pittsburgh or KC this coming season, and he wins 15 or so games.

Detroit receives=
-Sam Freeman
-Ariel Jurado

Texas receives=
-Al Alburquerque
-Kyle Lobstein.

1.) 06 Nov 2015 16:10:56
This trade makes no sense aside from a change of scenery for a couple relievers.

2.) 06 Nov 2015 18:15:14
I heard Texas is looking for veteran relief help. that's why I came up with this.

3.) 06 Nov 2015 20:18:59
If the are looking for help in the bullpen, why would they give up bullpen pieces?

05 Nov 2015 14:46:34
Detroit receives=
-Nick Williams

Philadelphia receives=
-Steven Moya
-Kevin Ziomek
-Victor Padron.

Prospect for prospect trades like this are rare.

This isn't a trade proposal, just a simple question. What do you guys think of the idea of the Tigers playing Iglesias more at 3B next season? I mean, if they decide to move Castellanos this offseason.

FutureMLBGM

1.) 03 Nov 2015 22:06:39
Why? Iglesias is a great SS so no I wouldn't even consider it.

09 Jun 2015 22:32:27
I'm a Detroit Tigers fan, and I'm trying to move Ian Kinsler in exchange for a lefty-hitting 2nd baseman. Who do you think we could get for him? Doesn't have a bad contract($16mil this year, then $14, then $11, then $12 with only $5 guaranteed) and still produces pretty well. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

He is owed that money innti his age 36 season. That's a terrible contract.

I got the impression that AA isn't interested in trading any of his young position players based on his recent press conferences. I think he's mainly thinking upgrading the roster through free agency anyway.

Cespedes is not going back to the Tigers. They simply can't afford him. Besides, Avila already made it clear he's focusing mainly on pitching in FA and the trade market.
