David Ortiz is going to go down as THE BEST DH ever. It was sad to see his career end the way it did last night in the sweep against the Indians. But he gave is all each and every game. This game and team meant more to him than anything else and its going to be sad going to Fenway and not seeing him in the line-up ever again.
Great player on and off the field. Future Hall of Famer.

Big Papi should be in the HOF and is probably one of the best clutch hitters of all time. However he should not be in the HOF until Edgar Martinez because he made the DH position into what it is today and he has over 300 HRs and played in the pitchers parks of The Kingdom and Safeco Field Martinez also had a .312 BA to end his career and is there is no reason why Papi should be in the HOF and not Edgar Martinez. Also I don't think Papi will be a first ballot HOF because of Steroids. I'm not saying he did them but there is no reason why a backup first baseman gets released and then it's 30 HR the next season and this happened in 2003 when steroids were common throughout the MLB and he had one of his best season this year in his 40s which makes no sense. The only explanation is Steroids or he conditions mad hard.

Yes he's had many clutch hits and help end a curse but he's been nothing but a DH for most of his career
Jeter won't get unanimous either or even sandman. the YEAR must be thin in order for a player to be unanimous
Ortiz will get a lot of votes but not unanimous. he may get in but won't be first ballot and if he gets in then many would wonder why not Edgar
The main thing that can hurt his chance to get in is the steroid rumors.

If and when Ortiz gets into the Hall of fame, those writers need to elect Edgar Martinez in as well. They won't be able to say "oh he only played dh" again. Its ridiculous Martinez should be in the Hall already.

Cookie and Sull, if steroid rumors didn't matter then Bagwell, and Bonds would already be in. Trust me i'm probably the biggest Bonds fan of all time and i don't think hell get in, does he deserve it? I think he should be in the HoF in some way, will Ortiz i don't know i think the 2 i mentioned will give us a clue.

Difference is Bonds was caught. so he won't get in. Ortiz was not but most (including players and gm's and experts) believe he did which suspicion would hurt Ortiz chance
On the steroids part, I feel he did do it, but who knows. also he is one of the best red Sox ever, one of the best clutch hitters ever and one OF the best DHs ever but that doesn't mean he gets in
If he does then the others (steroid users or ones who were connected) then they should get in and the other DHs.
Like I said, he may be the first DH in but it won't be first ballot or even in the first 5 ballots he's on. just must be a weak class the YEAR he is qualified.

"Bonds was caught" in what way? If he were caught, Selig would have suspended him as he did others.
I'm not denying anything, but saying he was caught is categorically false.

Cookie, Bonds was never caught, purely speculation, same with Ortiz.
Heres what i will say Bonds has better stats than Ortiz and Bonds actually played a position and played good defense. If Ortiz gets in and Bonds doesn't its a damn shame, Ortiz is great but has steroid speculation arguably more than Bonds, but Bonds broke the homerun record, i guarantee you that if Bonds didn't break the record the speculation wouldn't be as high, i feel no matter what if someone breaks the record again they will be surrounded by steroid speculation.

See I just don't know enough about other teams farm systems to know who is good and what not to trade. I barely know my teams farm system past the top 10 guys ranked and the recent 1st round pick. That's why I stay away. I don't know enough to make good posts. But I will comment from time to time.

Jerk- I don't really think the Sox will go after Beltran. I think the idea is that Hanley will be the DH going forward and we will look into a new 1st baseman or it will be Shaw with Monchada at 3rd. And there definitely isn't any room in the outfield with Jackie, Mookie and Andrew
I think that's what the plan will be.

Dodgers would definitely fit unless they have a nice young guy coming up to play 2nd base. Utley isn't getting any younger.
