Long way away, but if the Tigers find themselves out of the race around the deadline, they may have a few good pieces to move. Here's a few general ideas.
Tigers trade:
JD Martinez
Dodgers trade:
Alex Verdugo and a
mid level P prospect Dustin May or Josh Sborz
Verdugo may seem like a high price for a rental but Martinez is truly a game changing bat.
Tigers trade:
Justin Wilson (controllable through 2018)
Nationals trade:
RHP Eric Fedde or OF Andrew Stevenson
Everybody knows how valuable bullpens are come playoff time. Wilson would be a hot commodity as a power lefty who brings it at 97. Other teams like the Astros, Cubs, Dodgers to name a few will be after bullpen help as well.

JD is old and not a great fielder and the offense doesn't overshadow the defense.

I don't think the Dodgers would give up Verdugo, who is really close to the majors, for a rental of Martinez.
And there's almost no chance of the Tigers getting that for Justin Wilson.

Doyers, Martinez is only 28, not exactly old.
But the Dodgers aren't paying that price for him.

There is no way the Nats would give away those players, especially Stevenson. Eaton injured, so Stevenson will be promoted in September. Werth and Harper are almost gone too.

Micah Johnson
The Dodgers in win now mode acquire one of the best all around second baseman in the league. He brings intensity to the field and plays the game hard. Exactly the type of player the Dodgers need atop their lineup. Though 34, he is signed relatively cheap for 2017 with a cheap option for 2018 as well. In return the Tigers get a young up and coming outfielder in Verdugo, and also a Johnson who has medium upside as speed is a big part of his game.

Dalton Pompey/ Anthony Alford
Sean Reid Foley/ Connor Greene
Blue Jays get a legitimate middle of the order bat to replace the probable loss of Encarncion and Bautista. Martinez is under contract for one more year at a very cheap price of 11MM for his production. Tigers get a young athletic cost controlled option for center field and an up and coming, potential middle of the rotation starter.

Martinez is very good. But I think Toronto would shy away from that deal.

Martinez is not worth a teams top 4 prospects, two of them being top 100 prospects and 1 being an MLB-ready center fielder.
Martinez has 1-year left on his deal. No one is mortgaging the future for a player in his walk year.

The fir is perfect. But no way Indians give up Mejia for a pure rental. Divisional trade also gives me doubt.
