Here's an idea:

Cubs trade SP - Jake Arrieta, 3B - Jeimer Candelario and C - Victor Caratini

White Sox Trade SP - Jose Quintana.

Cubs get a replacement ace who is younger and about equal to Jake talent-wise and the Sox get an ace they can flip at the deadline along with two very nice prospects who are blocked on the Cubs MLB roster.

Thanks for reading.

I would think the Sox would want max possible young players that they could get for Q

Some of these post makes me feel like you guys are losing your minds.

I try to keep an open mind and look at prospective trades from all angles. That said, this is no good.

A cheap, controllable pitcher for an expensive (and worse) rental? Why on earth would the White Sox consider that?

5.) 08 Jan 2017 18:41:23
If I'm the Sox, I can't pull the trigger because there's risk in Arrieta not performing well in the 1st half and not getting much in return for him in July. However, I think it's an intriguing thought. The Sox get a top 100 prospect in baseball and a top 15 prospect in a good Cubs system to start with. Then they receive a large package at the deadline from a contending team looking for an ace if Arrieta is dominant again in the 1st half.

This is one of the worst things I've seen, no reason for the Cubs to make this trade, even the explanation that they are basically the same pitcher you are just giving up 12 years of two prospects for an extra three

7.) 08 Jan 2017 19:15:49
BuccoFan21, the extra 3 years of a top pitcher at a very cheap price is worth a lot more than you think. Also, although top prospects are expected to be solid players, but they haven't proven anything in the MLB yet.

Wait, BuccoFan, you think the Cubs wouldn't trade 1 year of Arrieta for FOUR of Jose Quintana?

They'd pull the trigger almost immediately. The White Sox wouldn't even think to put it on the table.

This is beyond too much for Blackmon.

the rockies are already paying a lot to jose reyes, why would they take on castro? lemaihue played pretty well last year at 2nd too.

3.) 25 Nov 2015 18:18:23
A. Way too much B. Why would COL want Castro C. COL wants pitching in trades.

Schwarber is not getting traded. Take your wet dreams elsewhere, LOL.

Not saying the trade is good or bad, but what is so special about Vince Velasquez? I know the Cubbies system pretty well, but the Phils are a mystery to me. From what I see on Baseball Reference V. V. is nothing special. Am I missing something? I hope it's not just because he has a bajillion years of team control left and he's young.

Huge overpay for a middling pitcher. Eloy alone would be an overpay. Gray is not worth much, even if he hadn't struggled last year. He's beginning to suffer from TLS (Tim Lincecum Syndrome) . Little guy that started out like gangbusters, but then his small stature caught up with him. It's a tale as old as time in MLB and only the beginning of a major downturn in his career. Mark my words.

The Cubs aren't blocking anyone from the farm. The simple fact is that they have top-level talent at almost every position on the diamond. The only real room for improvement is at catcher and that is even debatable. What should they do, trade Addison Russell or Kris Bryant so that Javier Baez can play full time? Just because the MLB talent is elite, doesn't preclude the talent coming behind them from being just as good.

The problem comes from the Cubs side of this equation as it does nothing to address a need for the Cubs. It is a very one-sided deal and not something the brain-trust in Chicago would contemplate. Sorry.
