The Padres got a great package for a bad rental in Cashner and a #4/ 5 in Rea. This means the pitching is going for a lot more, so the Angels should jump in.

Giants Get: Matt Shoemaker and Huston Street

Angels Get: Phil Bickford, Chris Shaw, and Lucius Fox

The Giants get a good, controllable starter in Shoemaker and a reliever that probably just needs in a change in scenery.

The Angels get a power pitching prospect, which they need, a power hitting prospect which the system doesn't have any of, a and a solid all-around talent in Fox.

If you're going to dream, why not go all the way and give the Angels Arroyo and Beede as well?

Good grief this is bad.

Giants overpay big in this one. Stop being an overly biased fan Bob.

One good prospect in this deal. for a starter that has been dominant for 3 months. Controllable and cheap. I have no idea how this is a huge overpay, especially since the Yankees got a top 30 type prospect for 2 months of Chapman as well as 3 other solid prospects.

Shaw and Bickford are both top 100 prospects. (Bickford is a top 50 guy per Baseball America) . Fox was one of the highest International Free Agent signings last year and has a lot of promise.

Seriously, quit trying to justify this horrendously one sided trade.

K. Take out Shaw. If Bickford and Fox for Shoemaker and Street is too much, that's crazy, in a market where relievers with 2 months of control are getting a top 30 prospect+more solid prospects.

Except those relievers have lengthy track records of success.

Shoemaker is a marginal SP upgrade for the Giants. The Giants aren't giving up a top 50 prospect and arguably the best IFA signing from last season for a marginal upgrade.

If anything, they would move Shaw and maybe a lesser prospect for Shoemaker, and that's likely an overpay.

The Angels have ZERO leverage. There are so many SP options out there. If this is their asking price, they'll never, ever, ever move a marginal SP like Shoemaker, who as you suggested, has only 3 months of sustained success.

Shoemaker has been great for 3 months, was average last year but had a few horrific starts that if you disclude them he was solid. The previous year, he was the Angels best pitcher after Richards got hurt and arguably better than when Richards wasn't hurt. Due to the inconsistentcy, Shoemaker is not the ace he was in 2014. But he is a solid, #3/ 4 pitcher with several years of control and has looked like he is back in 2014 form. I understand, especially you as a Giants fan, that you'd hate to give up your top prospect for someone that isn't a true ace, but in my opinion, based on the Cashner and Chapman trades, I feel like this is fair, but feel free to have your own thoughts, as this is just some random website where people post theirs.

Chapman has been one of the best closers his entire career. The Cubs were desperate for bullpen help. Thus they overpaid. They wouldn't have done so for a marginal improvement. The Marlims had no choice. They had zero farm depth, and desperately needed SP help. Thus their overpayment.

Neither Shoemaker nor Huston are significant upgrades for the Giants. They have no need to overpay, in fact, they are more likely to take on salary than give up organizational depth.

That you think the Giants would give up 3 significant pieces for some marginal upgrades only shows you haven't got a clue how the Giants operate and that you ought to stop talking.

To prove it: name one team who REASONABLY gave up 2 top 100 prospects and the top IFA signing for a back-end starter? Just one from the last 5 years.

I'll wait.

Bob it looks like you don't know what your talking about. Like theJerk said all these guys are premium top prospects. It looks like you just went on the Giants prospects page and looked at it and said oh these 3 look like something the Angels could use. Not looking at stats, overall rankings, etc.
