Cubs get: Vince Velasquez

Phillies get: Jeimer Candelario INF (Cubs #4), Mark Zagunis OF (Cubs #5), Bryan Hudson LHP (Cubs #10), Matt Szczur

Cubs get a young starter with multiple years of control. The Phillies have a multitude of young arms, but lack outfield depth. They get a solid outfield prospect in Zagunis, and Szczur to play some corner outfield this year alongside Kendrick and Herrera. Candelario and Hudson also give the Phillies a couple more high-upside prospects.

Not saying the trade is good or bad, but what is so special about Vince Velasquez? I know the Cubbies system pretty well, but the Phils are a mystery to me. From what I see on Baseball Reference V. V. is nothing special. Am I missing something? I hope it's not just because he has a bajillion years of team control left and he's young.

He's an above average pitcher controlled for 5 more seasons. That comes at a premium.

None of the guys coming from Chicago would be considered. I doubt that even fetches a rental.
