Well, than I think they should just move on. A 4.26 ERA is not worth the #2 prospect in the game.

That ERA is a bit misleading. The Pirates have been using Gerrit Cole to pitch for contact. That led to 31 home runs last year, which is insanely high. His HR/ FB fly ratio was more than doubled from 2016, which is likely a fluke. Unless he's tipping pitches (possibly) or losing velocity (he's not), there's no reason to believe that'll sustain itself unless we see it again. Trained scouts would obviously know more in that department.

He's almost a 9 K/ 9 guy, and again, that's with the intention of pitching to contact. His stuff is next level. He's young and has a lot left in him. I think he's inanely valuable.
