This is a revision of a Detroit/San Diego trade I posted a few days ago. Was told by a couple people that Detroit sending Machado/Turnbull/Labourt/Gerber to the Padres for Cashner was way too much. So, see how this looks:

San Diego receives=
-Dixon Machado (SS prospect)
-Austin Kubitza (RSP prospect, #8 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Jairo Labourt (LSP, #11 in DET farm system, eta-2017)
-Mike Gerber (Left-hand hitting RF prospect, #17 in DET farm system, voted Tigers 2015 hitting prospect of the year by mlb. com, eta-2018)

Detroit receives=
-Andrew Cashner (RSP who has projected 3.0 WAR for 2016 and only $7.0mil for his final year or arbitration before free agency. Sure he could walk, but he could also re-sign too)
-Alexi Amarista (Fills a need as a left-hand hitting infielder off the bench. Making $1.35mil next year followed by one year of arb before hitting free agency in 2018)

Look better now?

That's a lot of prospects for an average pitcher.

I don't know if you would call Cashner "average". I mean, he did have a rough year in 2015 but he's still a solid pitcher. And, at $7mil in 2016, that's part of the reason for all of the prospects.

Cashner is above average, for sure.

IMO, it's not enough. Part of that is based on Detroit's recent lackluster performance in producing major league talent.

I don't think the padres need another SS prospect now that they got Guerra from the red sox. They also have Rudy Giron whose probably going to play A advanced or Double A who they are very high on and is only 19 and they have Jose Rondon.
