Pirates get: Rick Porcello, Brovk Holt, and Carson Smith
Red Sox get: Mark Melancon, Yeudy Garcia, Jeff Locke, and Dan Gamache

Porcello takes Locke's spot on the Pirates rotation and bolters it a little, Holt allows Clint Hurdle to move is starters around as he likes to do and Smith will replace Melancon in the bullpen.

Locke is a serviceable 5th starter who can take Porcello's spot or be a long reliever, Garcia is a controllable young pitching prospect, Gamache is a utility guy who can play all over the infield and eventually replace Holt, and Melancon, the best closer in the game replaces Smith in the Boston bullpen.

How so?

"Best closer in the game" is debatable, but I'll let that pass. The Sox just gave up 4 prospects for Kimberly, so Melancon is unnecessary, especially when it would require them to downgrade their rotation.

And Holt is a very underrated player that the Sox should never get rid of unless they are blown away by an amazing offer of top MLB talent. I know this sounds stupid but I think that he is one of the players at this teams core that they need to keep to be as successful and obviously not trade him for people we don't need we just get Porcello last year and signed him to an extension, if he doesn't rebound this year I see him possibly getting traded but I think he will be back to how he was when he was on the Tigers, and we just got smith, we didn't trade him to trade him to someone else and we don't need Locke he is not worth what he is earning and If we did trade Porcello he would be replaced by one of Wright Ellias Owens or Johnson so we wouldn't need him, and the guy you said would replace holt probably wouldn't be as good as holt at every position, and Boston is already stacked with young pitching prospects we don't need to add to the log jam yet, maybe once Bucholtz is gone we add more but until then they need to add position prospects and that is why I think the Red Sox say no to this deal.

This is terrible. The Red Sox get screwed.
