Rangers get a big bullpen piece they need, and he reunites with Bannister. Pirates get a potentially decent pen arm, a nice looking LH starter, and then a throw in with good OBP skills.

The Pirates are 3.5 games out of a wild card spot. And have you seen the schedule in the second half? Nearly half of their games are against the Reds, Brewers, Padres, Phillies and Braves. So yes batman, I see their record, but they just came off a stretch of playing the Cubs, Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers, and Rangers. Not exactly an easy last few weeks.

This also would be bad for the Pirates in term of prospects as they have a ton of starting pitching in the minors and have a logjam at first base and catchet.

Unless the Pirates are convincingly in a playoff position they are going to move players due for high arbitration raises or that have expiring contracts after this season. Liriano, Melancon, maybe even Niese could be moved for prospects.

Ok you got me on the Wild Card standings, however do you really think they could overcome the teams that are ahead of them. I'm not so sure they can.
