Responding to recent rumors:
PHI trades Ken Giles and Nick Williams to MIA for Jose Fernandez.

Fernandez is 23 and one of the best pitchers in baseball. Giving up only 2 of your top prospects would be an enormous bargain.

It would definitely take more than Giles and Williams to get Fernandez from the Marlins. The Marlins may also ask the Phillies for more because I don't think they would trade Fernandez in the division. I could be wrong about that though.

Well, the proposal may be light, but I think some of you may be undervaluing Giles. He is only 25, is under club control, will not even be eligible for arbitration for 2 more years. And he's one of the top closers in the game. On the down side, he only did it for half a year, but the market for closers is hot right now. Reports are the Phils are asking for "2-3 top prospects. " As far as Fernandez goes, it appears the Marlins have soured on him and would like to get him out of town. Of course, there will be lots of bids for a pitcher of his caliber, so someone else will probably overpay.

I am a huge Ken Giles fan. But no one is trading one of the best starting pitchers in the game for Jose Fernandez. Literally, no one.
This is easily the worst trade idea I've seen on here in the last 24 hours.

I like this. The Phils do have some catching prospects, but the 2 top ones (Alfaro and Knapp) are offensive minded players who will probably end up at other positions.
