Cubs need to make a move now before its too late.

Cubs trade Javier Baez, Billy McKinney, CJ Edwards, Duane Underwood, Dan Vogelbach, and Arismendy Alcantara

Padres trade Shields, Upton and Kimbrel.

SD gets a chance to dump the salaries they so desperately want to, while also bringing in many TOP 100 prospects, that can help them rebuild quicker than expected.

CHC gets another big bat in the middle of the lineup, a shutdown closer that they desperately need and another starter that can win them games.

Remember that Shields was very close to signing this offseason with the Cubs, and this also gives him a chance to be reunited with his former manager Joe Maddon.

This makes sense for both teams, as SD is going nowhere this season, while the Cubs get some pieces they desperately need, while not selling the entire future as Shields and Kimbrel will still be on the team at least through next year. If they can get Upton to resign, it will be a great trade for them.

It's not enough to have all three. Secondly I don't know if the Cubs have that much money.

2.) 27 Jul 2015 21:17:40
This is great but Cubs may need to give one more player or maybe two. Otherwise this is great.

3.) 27 Jul 2015 21:19:03
Padres can get far more back if they piece each guy separately. This won't be near enough for the Cubs to get all three in one deal.

4.) 28 Jul 2015 00:58:24
From a Cubs fan, that isn't enough for those 3 players. And if I'm the Cubs if only maybe want Shields, don't want to mess around with rentals in a year where a wildcard is the best scenario.

CUBS BEFORE THE DEADLINE:

Cubs get Justin Upton and Tyson Ross

Padres get Baez(only not ranked, because currently rehabbing), CJ Edwards(#38), Billy McKinney(#96) and Dan Vogelbach.

Many people say us Cubs fans only put Baez as the main piece in deals, and expect a lot in return. He is a pretty significant piece, but not the only piece. Padres get plenty of return, while Cubs get the missing pieces to the puzzle in the lineup and the rotation.

Cubs get Tyler Clippard

Oak get Underwood(#98), PTBNL(maybe even Alcantara, who just needs a change of scenery)

Cubs get a true 9th inning man, while OAK gets a starting pitcher for the future, and a platoon guy

CF Fowler
1B Rizzo
3B Bryant
LF Upton
C Montero
RF Soler
SS Castro
P
2B Russell

OF Coghlan
C/OF Schwarber
C Ross
2B/3B Herrera
Either Denorfia or La Stella

Lester
Arrieta
Ross
Hammel
Hendricks

Strop
Russell
Grimm
Rondon
Wood
Motte
Clippard

Trade or DFA Edwin Jackson

Wada to AAA if there's any options left. If not DFA.

Still have Medina and Rafael Soriano in AAA if there are any injuries.

If this deal is done sooner rather than later, Cubs have a chance to get the WC game at home, or possibly make a run at the division.

They have Rafael Soriano coming up soon. There is your true 9th inning reliever/closer

2.) 18 Jul 2015 15:24:47
I like this except for the Clippered deal which is pointless and you should keep Alcantera considering how Brock holt esk he is and I would flip Rizzo and Bryant in the order as well.

3.) 18 Jul 2015 16:08:49
For the most part, I like the deal. I think it would work.

4.) 19 Jul 2015 03:10:24
Baez is not and will not be the centerpiece to any major trade. No one wants a guy who is going to be a career 35-40% strikeout guy.

5.) 19 Jul 2015 20:31:53
There is a lot more evidence Baez is going to end up in the 25-30% range. Which is still high but more than acceptable with his power potential. In his minor league career he's under 26%. His AAA number(which also accounts for almost 40% of his minor league at bats) is under 29%. This year with AAA its just over 25%.

6.) 20 Jul 2015 16:01:36
I actually like the Upton deal.

1.) Baez is very overrated, as are most Cubs.

2.) Why would the Yankees want Coghlan and Vogelbach?

3.) Baez isn't worth DeGrom.

4.) 29 May 2015 18:04:21
I agree Baez is overrated, that's why I want the Cubs to keep the Castro/Russell tandem. The Mets said they would get rid of Degrom anyways because they have plenty of pitching, and we have plenty of middle infield which the Mets need

5.) Batman:

Coghlan can serve as a bench player or the LF, while Vogelbach is the DH/1B of the future

6.) Longtimebaseballfan:

I agree Baez is overrated, and I hope the Cubs keep the Castro/Russell tandem. The Mets say they would get rid Of Degrom, because of all the pitching they have, and the Cubs get rid of a middle infielder the Mets desperately need. With his HR potential, seems to be a fair trade considering Mets will still have Harvey Syndergaard Matz Montero Niese Gee and Colon

7.) 29 May 2015 18:11:03
Yes, the Mets want to give up an incredible young pitcher for a guy the Cubs refuse to bring back up to the majors.

8.) Deform is a proven
The question is how God will he be
A number 1 2 or 3
Baez Cubs need to do better
Needs to be a player on Cubs roster now

9.) Theathlete, Greg Bird is the 1b of the future, Dh is possible, but I see McCann being that in a couple years. Plus the Yankees already have Chris Young to play off the bench, so no need for Coghlan.
